In February 2021 I was sent a USB stick with silent 16mm cine film footage of my family, shot by my Grandad between the 1960's and 1980's.

Seeing my extended family getting married, sailing and on holiday, sometimes well before I was born was a really lovely experience, but in the back of my mind I kept thinking how much better it would be if the films were not silent.

Inspired by that thought I decided to create my own music for the films, trying to mix more classical instruments with modern synths and rhythms, reflecting the past when the films were made and the present when the music was composed, being honest and avoiding parody, experiencing feelings of nostalgia, melancholy, hope and beauty.

The titles represent what each cine reel was about, sometimes covering months of time on one reel.

Seperated by upto 60 years in some cases, I hope the music elevates the cine film footage and provides a new and rich experience for the family members who are featured in them.
